calfordseaden is pleased to welcome Barry Hall, who joins our team as a Partner. Barry brings a wealth of operational and technical experience across many sectors, with a keen passion for regeneration. This new appointment is part of our continued expansion, with the aim of strengthening our offering and developing more strategic opportunities.
I started my construction career in Architecture, completing my Bachelor of Arts (Hons), Bachelor of Architecture, RIBA Part I, Part II and Part III at The University of Liverpool. Architecture interested me as I wanted to change the environment around me. Throughout my career, while I have had the opportunity to work on a range of schemes, my passion has always been regeneration schemes and the positive impact that successful regeneration can have on a local community. I am particularly proud of my involvement in the successful regeneration schemes located in East London, where I grew up, including New Garden Quarter in Stratford which delivered 500 new homes in partnership with Notting Hill Genesis.
After graduating, I started working as an Associate at a small local architectural practice where I had the opportunity to work on predominantly residential, healthcare and education projects most notably Richard House, London’s first Children’s hospice. I then moved on to more senior roles at Chapman Taylor, where I worked on major projects, and the Tooley & Foster Partnership, where I had a broad role overseeing several high-quality large-scale projects. This position instilled a passion for the operational side of construction, which was developed further when I qualified as a Project Manager and moved to Telford Homes PLC as Technical Director.
At Telford Homes, I spent 17 years developing in and around East London, gaining strong experience in delivery and leadership across the Development process including residential, high rise, mixed-use and Build to Rent. Throughout my career, I have been nominated to represent the Industry on National Bodies including the Home Builders Federation National Technical & Sustainability Committee and the National House Building Council Standards Review Group. I was also a founding member of the Home Builders Federation Tall Buildings Group.
When the opportunity to join calfordseaden as Partner was presented to me, I was delighted by the prospect of building on the existing connection with Mike Anderson, Equity Partner in charge of our Essex Office. Having worked with Mike over the past ten years, I was aware of calfordseaden and the type of projects I could expect to work on as well as the company’s ethos and values.
It is great to be client facing at the front end of some large and unique projects and I am keen to continue building on our existing strong relationships, developing new ones, supporting with my operational experience, and developing more strategic opportunities. Since joining calfordseaden, I have established a comprehensive in house offer of support for those dealing with a backlog of issues in the wake of Grenfell. This runs from early advice, through inspections to managing remedial works on site. This will be a key area of concern for the construction industry in the years ahead and the outstanding teams across the Practice will continue to work with our extensive resources, to provide the best solutions for our clients.
