On the afternoon of Friday 19th August at the City of London Academy in Southwark, calfordseaden’s resident football team was warming up for the Freddie Farmer Foundation Cup football tournament, hosted by A&E Elkins.
12 teams entered the tournament and all had 10 players, except for our team who turned up with the required number of 7! So from the outset our boys were the underdogs. The matches were fast paced and lasted 10 minutes each, meaning goals were few and far between, but just the one could get you closer to being in the final.
With some top saves from Brad Allen in goal and some fantastic last minute challenges from Stuart Churchward, Callum Blake and Dan Pescod, our team managed to keep goals conceded to a minimum.
Possession was always in our favour but hitting the target was proving to be a bit more difficult as no one had their shooting boots on! However, as we progressed match by match confidence grew and thanks to Paco’s quick thinking and Stephen Mumford’s clever, unselfish layoff pass to Rob Clothier, enough goals were scored to take the team into the playoff for third place.
During this game, Rob managed to fire home a thunderous strike and thanks to yet more last minute tackles from all players we finished third with a strong performance from all involved.
