Colleagues at calfordseaden took part in a World Cup 5-a-side tournament last week to help raise over £250 for St Mungo’s, a charity with an aim to end homelessness.
Organised by Network Homes, the competition took place on 19th July 2018 at Powerleague Wembley.
With a ‘winner plays on’ style format, calfordseaden fought for a place in the final against 10 other teams including Mace, Madlins LLP, LIFE Build Solutions, Hunters and Brent Council.
The calfordseaden team played incredibly well in the group stage winning all five of our games and topping the group with 15 points. In the semi-final, they then hit the brick wall that was Mace, with Rob Clothier feeling the full force of some of their strong challenges. Despite the valiant efforts of Mark Wilgoss and some excellent saves from Ben Nixon to keep the tie alive, Mace unfortunately scored from a close range.
Thanks to the flair of Esteban Orellana Mateos and Paco Gomez, the calfordseaden troops rallied together and got back our passing game. However, just like England, we ran out of steam in the semi-final and lost by a one goal margin.
It was great to be part of such a worthwhile cause. Thanks Network Homes!
