The aim of the competition is to find iconic designs for bespoke beach huts, which will be sited at intervals along the Eastbourne sea front and provide a diverse and contemporary tourism offer, with vibrant and exciting beach huts, and liven up sparse areas of Eastbourne’s seafront.
The Council, along with members of the local community, have worked together to pinpoint five key locations to position the winning beach hut designs. Four concession or private use huts will be located along the seafront, to the east of the pier, and a community project hut will be located outside the children’s adventure park, Treasure Island.
Our competition entry by John Spence and Nathanael Smetham, ably aided with cost advice by Dale Arden and Francisco has been longlisted along with 11 other beach hut designs. We are now awaiting phase 3 of the competition where a shortlist of 8 designs will be selected to be commissioned.
