calfordseaden project a finalist for Inside Housing’s Top 60 Developments

St Nicholas Church in Perivale is a finalist in the ‘Joint-venture development of the year’ category, being shortlisted for the partnership between the Church, Ealing Council and ASRA Housing Group.

The partnership was formed with the aim to deliver a new building for the church with a hall, vicarage and affordable housing on the site of the original church building.

For 15 years the church, and later the partnership, had been looking at various ways to utilise the space to make it more useable for the community. Their congregation had dwindled in size and the space had become too big for those using it. Previous plans to divide the space into various different sections were rejected for safety reasons.

calfordseaden’s team of architects was appointed to the project and designed a church that would benefit the congregation whilst also integrating it with the local community. The church’s design included two floors above to accommodate ten flats for affordable tenures.

On the site adjacent to the church are seven Code level 4 houses and a replacement vicarage designed to be Code level 6. The church has been awarded BREEAM Excellent environment assessment rating and was shortlisted at this year’s Constructing Excellence Awards for the Innovation category.
