Celebrating 10 Years in Cambridge

January 5^th 2025 marked the 10-year anniversary of the opening of the calfordseaden Cambridge office! Our expansion into the heart of Cambridge City Centre, in 2015, has enabled the Practice to deliver our multi-disciplinary consultancy services to numerous clients across the region.

The office was opened under the direction of Equity Partner and Office Lead, Ben Furr, with the aim to explore new opportunities in the growing eastern region. Since that date, the office has grown to around 30 professional staff members.

Our Impact

We are proud to have worked on several landmark developments in the region, most notably The University of Cambridge’s North West Cambridge Development. This project transformed 150 hectares of farmland into Eddington, a sustainable district providing housing for university staff, students, and private buyers. It features facilities including a primary school, community centre, and award-winning buildings, such as the Storey’s Field Centre. Designed to high sustainability standards, it used a CHP Energy Centre, photovoltaic panels, and water recycling, with a focus on green transport. calfordseaden provided BIM, NEC Supervisor, and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (M&E) services for the award-winning project.

We also provided services for the award-winning Chamomile Gardens development. This project involved the design and construction of a single building comprising 93 dwellings with communal facilities, amenities, and landscaped grounds. Our role as Employer’s Agent and Cost Consultant entailed calfordseaden overseeing the tender process, coordinating room data sheets to ensure accuracy, and our M&E specialists working with the design team to balance cost savings with quality. The scheme incorporated a communal heating system with carefully planned provisions to optimise plant placement and prevent overheating, highlighting our commitment to sustainable and efficient design.

Most recently, our team has been involved in exciting proposals for the redevelopment of the Cambridge Civic Quarter in the heart of the town centre. The proposed scheme, that will redevelop The Guildhall, Corn Exchange, and Market Square, aims to create a more dynamic civic space in the heart of Cambridge, with improvements to the public realm and creating an enhanced market experience for visitors. Our Employer’s Agents and Quantity Surveyors will work closely with Cambridge City Council and the wider team to prepare for the submission of formal planning applications.

The accomplishments and sustained success of the office over the past 10 years would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our colleagues as well as some supportive clients! Over the years, we have witnessed a range of achievements across the team, from individuals gaining chartership and completing apprenticeships to colleagues developing their skills through professional development, leading to many promotions. Each of these milestones reflects the commitment and talent within our team.
