Creating a better place to live with Extra Care Housing

03.04.2018

Extra Care housing plays a major role in calfordseaden’s vision to deliver new and inclusive communities across England.

We are members of the Associated Retirement Community Operators (ARCO) and co-hosted a breakfast seminar on the reasons Extra Care and retirement villages are the new business models housing providers need to be considering for the sector, with ARCO’s Executive Director, Michael Vogues.

Our experience of delivering successful Extra Care housing schemes spans a number of years and various different projects. In 2009 we were appointed to the Kent Private Finance Initiative (PFI) after providing a major contribution to the winning competition entry. The initiative included five Extra Care housing schemes including Beeches in Dover and Bowles Lodge in Hawkhurst. These two schemes have now been featured in Housing LIN’s new video series, ‘Spotlight on Extra Care Housing’ along with two other calfordseaden projects; Clement House in Bracknell and St Bede’s in Bedford.

Our Head of Design, John Spence, has been working with Housing LIN to help create the video series, which aim to raise awareness of Extra Care Housing as an option for senior living, and feature interviews from residents, care assistants and industry professionals.

The first in the series, ‘What is Extra Care Housing’ is available to view now, and if you watch to the end you will spot our very own John Spence making an appearance!
