In the ever-changing world of construction rules and regulations, keeping abreast of recent and upcoming updates is key to staying ahead of the curve. With this in mind, calfordseaden hosted a number of industry representatives at our first breakfast seminar of the year, entitled ‘What’s New in 2019: Rules, Regulations and Guidance’.
Drawing from our expertise across a range of disciplines, our team discussed four core topics:
- Guy Rapley explored reforms proposed by the Social Housing Green Paper 2018 and the call to review current Decent Homes Standards. Guy discussed discrepancies between standards in the Private Rental Sector and Social Rental Sector, the financial implications of a new strategy and the need for issues of fire safety, energy efficiency and fuel poverty to be considered in any revised standards.
- Emily Mansfield outlined upcoming changes to SAP calculations (SAP 10) and the impact of changes to carbon dioxide emissions factors.
- Chris Marien detailed how proposed updates to GLA energy assessments will radically affect the energy source, placement and choice of heating systems in residential developments going forward.
- Jacqui Clarke discussed key changes under the newly introduced BREEAM guidelines, touching on major revisions to energy, materials and pollution issues and their effect on planning and design.
Thank you to all guests who attended our seminar; we look forward to sharing more knowledge and generating further discussion throughout the year.
