Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC)

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) is a lightweight form of concrete. It has historically been used widespread in roof, floor, cladding and wall construction in a variety of buildings, from the 1930’s until mid-1990’s.

In December 2022, The Department for Education Estates Guidance noted a number of embedded systemic problems that RAAC has, from reduced strength to limited quality control during the manufacturing and installation process.
