Skinners Academy Careers Day at Colville

The visit followed an engineering workshop held at our London office earlier this year, where students explored career pathways and took part in practical activities with our engineers. It was fantastic to see the group again, who brought the same energy and willingness to learn that they demonstrated during their visit in February.

Following a health and safety briefing, our Organisational Development Business Partner, Nicola Butler, spoke about the work we do, the variety of careers available across the sector, and the different routes into construction, including apprenticeships.

Students then heard from Associate Employer’s Agent, Abi Peters, who shared her unique journey into Building Surveying and demonstrated some of the tools used in her role. The group put their new skills into practice by using surveying and measuring equipment to map out the site office.

A guided tour of the Colville redevelopment, led by Kier’s Darren and Issy, gave students the opportunity to see the project and the impact of regeneration work first-hand.

The day concluded with a task led by Associate Employer’s Agent, Alisha Talab. Working in teams, students were tasked with designing a small outdoor seating area for a school within a set budget. Using model building materials, they developed their ideas before presenting their designs to the wider group.
