We are delighted to welcome Alex Cunningham to our team at calfordseaden. Alex joins us as a Partner and will be leading our Land and Partnerships services alongside Equity Partners, Ben Furr and Joe Parody. With a wealth of experience and knowledge of the land market in London and the South East, we look forward to Alex contributing to the continued success of this service.

Personal Life and Professional Background

Born and raised in South East London, Alex attended Kingston University, where he studied Real Estate Management. A former amateur rugby player, Alex is a Charlton Athletic fan and has a keen interest in golf and travelling.

Alex’s professional journey started at Strutt & Parker, where he specialised in Strategic Land & Development Consultancy. He then transitioned into land roles with prominent housebuilders Bellway and Dandara, he honed his skills in acquiring land for residential development, managing commercial portfolios, handling the disposal of affordable S106 homes, and navigating the intricacies of the planning system.

Primary Responsibilities at calfordseaden

In his role at calfordseaden, Alex will collaborate with our industry professionals to assist existing Housing Associations (HAs) and Built to Rent (BTR) clients in land acquisition. Alex will continue to foster the growth of the Land & Partnerships team by identifying and acquiring new sites, introducing a development consultancy service, and where required integrating our wider services to add value to the transaction and subsequent project.

Land and Partnerships Services – What We Offer

The Land & Partnerships team help our clients acquire new land and S106 opportunities, many of which are put together as package deals to allow for a quick commencement following the transaction and to consider and manage build risk at an early stage. In many cases, our technical team ensures the successful delivery of the project post transaction. Our clients vary from HAs and housebuilders, to developers/contractors and public sector regeneration companies.

Land and Partnerships Service – Looking Ahead

Whilst we will continue to deliver the same opportunities, moving forward the focus of our team will extend to assisting landowners in maximising their land value, aiding BTR funds in acquiring new projects, and helping housebuilders to strategically dispose of their S106 affordable units. Alex’s experience in housebuilding will be pivotal in providing consultancy services to developers, promoters, and asset owners, optimising development potential through viability and feasibility reviews, funding options, sales and marketing strategy, use class and unit optimisation, and planning strategy.

Alex’s aspirations at calfordseaden align with continuing the legacy of finding new business opportunities for our clients. He aims to lead the Land & Partnerships team to encompass every region and cover a range of services, reaffirming calfordseaden’s ability to add real value to land transaction process and be pro-active in finding solutions to the ever-competitive land market.
