calfordseaden was appointed for the provision of Clerk of Works services for this Award Winning scheme in Crawley. The scheme comprises of 22 self-contained affordable apartments arranged over six levels with associated parking and landscaping.
The tight urban brownfield site is located at the southern gateway into Crawley, Sussex, and is bounded by several commercial properties, a main railway line and the arterial road that leads into Crawley town centre.
The building frame utilises a Light Gauge Steel (LGS) system that is made up of factory produced pre-insulated external wall panels, floor and roof cassettes. This type of construction helped to keep the D&B construction programme on track where time was a constraining factor on this project.
The recessing of the upper storey softens the overall profile of the building and allow the incorporation of a “floating” roof structure which conceals energy saving initiatives.
A combination of face brickwork and light render facades provides a variety of surface treatments to the façade.
Use of colour coated steel and aluminium balconies to all units to provides outside space for all homes whilst adding a further three dimensional element to the building.
