We were appointed to provide Employer’s Agent services for the first phase of Carpenters Yard. This innovative development in Epping is the world’s largest and the UK’s first ‘Zero Bills’ microgrid community.

As Employer’s Agent our role was overseeing the delivery of 35 affordable and sustainable homes, which included monitoring the progress on site, coordinating handover processes, ensuring key compliance documentation was in place, and collaborating with project partners.

The homes have been designed to be exceptionally energy efficient, achieving airtightness levels far beyond the UK standard, and the tariff will enable residents to live without home energy bills for at least five years. This has been achieved by using green technologies such as heat pumps, solar panels and the UK’s first centralised battery, allowing a significant amount of on-site energy to be seamlessly shared between properties, creating a ‘Zero Bills’ community.
