Free Wharf is a major new mixed-use scheme on the site of a disused wharf east of the Shoreham-by-Sea town centre.

The scheme kick-starts the council’s vision for a residential driven redevelopment that provides access to the River Adur along the full length of the Western Harbour Arm, stretching from east of the town centre towards the harbour entrance and the sea.

Free Wharf provides a mix of one and two bedroom flats across four to nine storeys and a commercial space. The development is angled to maximise water views for all residents while offering enticing glimpses of the river.

The scheme was delivered to meet Southern Housing Groups’ BIM Requirements, which are aligned to the UK BIM Framework, the scheme is constructed using both traditional and modern methods of construction.

A challenge includes the introduction to the Building Safety Bill, FIREie, BS 8644-1 all of which is to be complied with to achieve the Golden Thread during the project. Managing the CDE, hosted by Key  client managed by IM. This was also the contractors’ first BIM project so we are assisting in managing their processes and advising them against the Southern Housing Approval process.

calfordseaden are employed as information manager on this scheme from RIBA Stage 3. The role included development of Exchange Information Requirements, Project Information Requirements. Document Control and Management of the Common Data Environment as well as auditing of BIM Execution Plan, Master Production Delivery Table as well COBie Auditing and Model Auditing, with reports being issued to the contractor. The information manager was also involved with ensuing the principles of the Golden Thread for the duration of the project and handover to asset management are met.

The project utilised the latest UK BIM Framework Standards which included ISO 19650 processes for CDE management and Reviews as well as ISO naming conventions and delivery of COBie to BS1192-4 requirements.
