This scheme involved the development of a Listed Convent Building dating from the early 20th century to provide residential accommodation.

calfordseaden was appointed to deliver Stage 4 Multi-disciplinary design services delivering 9 affordable rent apartments in the existing building and 20 new build houses for affordable rent in the grounds. The development consists of a traditional 3 storey construction with Photovoltaic panels.

The new build houses are arranged around small courtyards and are brick constructed with feature arches. The roofs are formed with semi-circular copper clad barrel vaults.
Upon appointment our first step was to review the planning approved scheme. This identified a number of compliance issues relating to Building Regulations and Disabled provision. In short, the approved scheme could not be built.

We were able to amend the scheme without diluting the design. We were also able to increase the number of bedrooms, adding value without increasing the floor area or build cost.

Having obtained planning approval we prepared detailed drawings and NBS specification for pricing and construction purposes.
