Welcome to Matthew Smith and James Green

We are delighted to welcome new Partners Matthew Smith and James Green, who have joined our London office. Our London presence has grown substantially since former partner Geoff Clark first opened an office in the capital more than 20 years ago. With strong experience in the industry, we have no doubt that both Matt and James will contribute towards our continuous growth.

Prior to joining calfordseaden, Matt worked at Welling Partnership LLP for 25 years. He was responsible for managing their London office since it’s opening in December 2006, initially as Associate and then as Partner from April 2011 following promotion. Matthew was directly responsible for the day-to-day management of this office including the delivery of all projects, and was accountable to the Executive Management Board.

Matt was elected to the RICS as a Chartered Building Surveyor in January 1998 and has specialised in the residential affordable housing sector for the past 20 years, where he has delivered a wide range of projects to both Housing Association and Local Authority clients. Matthew has a huge passion and drive to deliver the highest possible standards to his clients and relishes active hand-on involvement throughout all stages of a project.

Outside of his professional life Matt enjoys watching and participating in a wide range of sports including golf, football and athletics and has an equal passion for music. He is also involved with grass-roots football and holds an FA Level 1 Coaching Badge. This enables him to co-manage an U16 Boys football team in which his son plays for locally in Teddington.

James Green, Chartered Building Surveyor, also has over 25 years consultancy experience. Before starting his new role at calfordseaden, he worked at Pellings for 20 years, rising from senior surveyor to Partner. He had overall responsibility for the employer’s agent team and reporting to the Management Board.

During his career, James has gained extensive experience in delivering educational and housing projects for both the public and private clients. Most recently, he has developed a specialism for extra care and sheltered accommodation. James is also passionate about sustainability with a particular interest in the principles of Passive House.

Away from work, James has his hands full with three teenage sons and enjoys playing football and cycling.

Matt and James will support Jonathan Harris, Partner in the calfordseaden London office, in continuing the on-going success experienced in the office, as the group continues to deliver employer’s agent, project management, JV supervisor and quantity surveying services across residential, commercial, hospitality and education sectors.
